Dear Elmwood Family,

The following article will appear in the next issue of The Master’s Institute’s monthly newsletter; “The Master’s Voice”.  It describes the birthing of a new MI School of Ministry track that will be offered this fall.  I have dreamed for many years about the development of an in-depth course on the gift of prophecy and proper use of this gift in the church today.  Together with the staff of The Master’s Institute we have created a 30 week course that will actually be held here at Elmwood on Monday evenings beginning September 24.  If you are interested in joining the class you can apply on-line at www.TheMastersInstitute.org  or call 651-765-9756 for an application form.  The tuition cost of the course is $650.

PLEASE pray that the Lord will powerfully bless all those who will be a part of this course and that through these times of learning and encounter the wonderful gift of prophecy will be experienced in a greater and healthier way in the Body of Christ.

All for His Glory and Honor,

Pastor Fred

YOU GIVE THEM SOMETHING TO EAT
by Pastor Fred Thoni

“And when He (Jesus) came out, He saw a great multitude, and felt compassion for them, and healed their sick.  And when it was evening, the disciples came to Him, saying, “The place is desolate, and the time is already past; so send the multitudes away, that they may go into the villages and buy food for themselves.”  But Jesus said to them, “They do not need to go away; you give them something to eat!””   (Matthew 14: 14-16).

Last summer at the Lutheran Conference on the Holy Spirit I taught a workshop one afternoon on “Power or Presumption:  Discerning the Prophetic”.  As I came to the conclusion of my teaching I invited people to come forward to the front of the auditorium if they wanted to receive a personal prophetic word from the Lord.  We were prepared with an altar ministry team, but totally unprepared for the rush of several hundred people that came forward.   What followed was one of the most significant ministry experiences of my life.  One after the other, after the other, we prayed with people and the Lord gave a prophetic word to each person.  I lost track of  time.  All I could see was the person before me, sense their deep hunger to hear from the Father, and the line of people flowing down the aisle.  I was gripped with the intense compassion of Jesus as I spoke the heart of the Lord to person after person.  I suddenly heard music; it was the worship team arriving to warm up for the evening session.  Then I heard Paul Anderson speaking and I realized the evening session was beginning just as I finished praying with the last person.  I had been giving prophetic words for three hours.  Jesus fed them all. Everyone got something to eat.

The aftermath of this incredible experience was that the burning sense to give the people of God “something to eat” did not go away.  For several years I have carried a burden to raise the level of the prophetic gifts in the church today.  Conference workshops and retreats are great, but we need good safe, healthy, prophetic ministry functioning in the local church.  And here I was, again and again, hearing the words of our Lord, “You give them something to eat”.  I shared with the leadership of The Master’s Institute my dream of establishing a school of the prophetic.  As we spoke and prayed together it became evident that the Holy Spirit was calling MI to create a new track for their School of Ministry.  It would be specifically designed to help students grow in their understanding of the prophetic gifts of the Spirit and how to minister responsibly, boldly and compassionately in the local church.  It is thrilling to tell you that the dream is rapidly becoming a reality.  A thirty week school has been designed with practical teaching week by week by an amazingly gifted group of teachers.  Some of the topics to be covered include Prophecy 101; Emotional Health & Anointing; Dreams, Prophecy and Interpretation; Process and Timing of Prophetic Words; Prophetic Arts; Prophetic Evangelism; Prophecy and Prayer Ministry; Prophesy and Healing; and much more.  Throughout the year there will be special integration nights where students will process together what they are learning and be challenged to exercise what they have been learning.   This track is designed to be a very safe place to practice and experience prophetic gifting.  Loving encouragement and correction will be taught.  Character will be emphasized over anointing.

Classes will meet Monday evenings at Elmwood Evangelical Free Church, St. Anthony Village, MN from September 24, 2012 through May 13, 2013.  As the site leader I look forward to seeing brothers and sisters in Christ released more and more in the area of the prophetic and together we will, by the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, learn to “give them something to eat”.

Fred Thoni has been an ordained pastor for thirty years.  He has taught on the present day work of the Holy Spirit locally and internationally.  For over forty years he has been growing in the prophetic and personally invites you to come and taste and see the goodness of the Lord at the MI School of Ministry – Prophetic Track.
