Greetings Elmwood Saints,
August? Already? Wow, the summer is flying by. This has been such a lovely summer! It was fascinating to have the Rev. and Mrs. Gudipati from India with us recently, and also so great to have the Roberts family back from northern Thailand to share about their ministry there. It is good for us to continually be aware of what God is doing across the face of the earth. It is His deepest heart’s desire that all may come to the knowledge of the truth and be saved. Please take the time to read on page 5 the Prayer Points For Our Missionaries prepared by our Missions Committee. Please be in prayer for these dear friends and their ministries. Also prayerfully consider personally supporting one or more of them, if you aren’t already. As you will see, several of them are in need of greater financial backing.
I wrote about CHANGE last month and it certainly was a challenging month with the street repair. There were times that entrance to Elmwood’s parking lot changed hourly. The street repair is about finished. The new curb and gutter has been poured and soon we will see asphalt. We are planning to have a Celebration Night for the neighborhood, city officials, and the street repairmen. It will be a potluck BBQ. More information will be coming as soon as we get an end date from the city.
More change has come as we welcome for a season brothers and sisters from North Heights Lutheran Church. They will be using our sanctuary for a worship service on Sunday afternoons beginning August 9. Please pray for our sister congregation. There is great turmoil going on there and they are in desperate need of wisdom and grace from God. In the meantime, we will be having four worship services here at Elmwood each Sunday. At 10:30AM we will be having our regular Elmwood worship service. At the same time Conquistando Fronteras will be having a Spanish service in the triple Sunday School room. At 1:00PM North Heights will have their worship service and at 5:00PM Grove Community Church meets. I believe using our facility in this way brings much glory to the Lord Jesus and is a tangible revelation of the true body of Christ. In these dark days as our culture turns more and more away from the truth, it is vital that the true church of Christ stands boldly together proclaiming the wonderful news of the Gospel. It is a tremendous privilege for each of us to be part of the Christ’s body right now in this season and in this place.
Together, as the writer of the book of Hebrews declares, “Let us run with perseverance, the race marked out for us. Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith”.
~ Hebrews 12:1-2
Boldly we daily press on for His honor and glory,Pastor Fred
