Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
HAPPY NEW YEAR! January 2015 is here!
Interestingly, our month of January received its name from the first month of the ancient Roman calendar called, Januarius. The Romans named this month after their god Janus. He was the god of beginnings and transitions. He was usually depicted as having two faces, one looking to the future and the other back to the past. If we had kept the old Anglo-Saxon name we would be celebrating Wolfmonath 2015 (the month of the wolf). For us as Christians, we do not need to fear the wolf or entrust ourselves to a false god. We have Jesus! We have just celebrated His humble birth; the Sign foretold by the angels, who was the Savior born for you!
In John 14:6 the Lord Jesus Christ declares, “I am the way and the truth and the life.” As Christ-followers we can look back through 2014 and see how faithfully the Lord cared for us and was there for us in all that came our way. Through the joys and the sorrows, the victories and defeats He was there, always there, making a way for us. The Good News, dear friends, is that not only was He with us last year, but that He will be with us this year, in fact ALWAYS, even to the end of the age. In Hebrews 13 Jesus declares, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.” The Roman god Janus may have looked back and ahead, but Jesus is the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End (Revelation 22:13). It is through Jesus that “all things were made” and it is in Him that “we have life” (John 1).
Because of Jesus the “old has gone and the new is here.” (2 Corinthians 5:17). It is because of Jesus that our sins are washed away, that they are removed from us as far as east is from the west, and that we are made as clean as new fallen snow. Talk about a fresh start! Yes, Jesus in His grace and goodness makes all things new!
wonderful it is to begin 2015 knowing that Jesus Christ, “who is the same
yesterday, and today, and forever” (Hebrews 13:8) is in charge of our
beginnings and transitions, and all that life brings.
HAVE A WONDERFUL YEAR IN JESUS,Pastor Fred
