Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
Here we are and it is suddenly June. In Wisconsin, June is Dairy Month. As a boy, that meant throughout the month there was FREE chocolate and white milk at our local bank every day! Wow, what a treat! After Little League baseball practices most of our team would head for the bank to drink several glasses of cold, refreshing milk. Ice cream socials were held in the evenings, hosted by the local 4H Clubs and churches. Lots of good Wisconsin cheese was served with homemade pies and heaping scoops of ice cream. Great memories for this farm boy.
June is also known as the wedding month. On the last Saturday in June thirty-four years ago I married my California sweetheart, Kai Campbell. It was a beautiful sunny southern California day. I was so excited I could hardly sleep the night before the wedding. The church was filled with family and friends as we made our vows before God to be husband and wife ‘til death do us part. Today we look back and see how much we have grown and how faithful God has been to us in pouring out His grace upon our marriage. Our dear friend, Nordis Christenson, told us, “Marriage is hard.” She was right. Marriage takes work, hard work, but I wouldn’t have it any other way.
Recently I read an article about marriage by John McGee, which gave six vital work areas that are needed to make a marriage strong. Here they are:
Feel free to share these points with your family members and close friends. If you are married cut them out and post them on your refrigerator or use them as a book mark. Most importantly ask the Lord Jesus to give you the grace to consistently do them. If you aren’t married, use them as a guide for prayer for your married loved ones.
Christian marriage, between one man and one woman, is a gift from God and designed by Him for the best of life. Dear friends, pray this month for the marriages of our Elmwood members and friends, for the marriages of your loved ones and neighbors, and for the institution of Christian marriage itself to be preserved and protected within our land.
All for Christ and His Glory,
P.S. June is a good month to go out for ice cream or have a cheese burger!
